The Department of Chemistry Participates in the Nairobi Innovation Week April 26 - 28, 2022

The Department of Chemistry, under the sponsorship of RSC PACN, participated in the just concluded Nairobi Innovation Week for the year 2022. It was represented by Dr. Joseph Mwaniki (who presented his innovations on Robotics and Automation of Laboratory Experiments), Dr. Peterson Guto (who presented his innovation of an Electrochemical Sensor for Heavy Metals), and the Essential Oils and Detergents production units (EOPU & DPU) which showcased products from the department.

Nairobi Innovation Week April 26th-28th 2022

The University of Nairobi in collaboration with a large number of partners & stakeholders convene every year to organize and execute the NIW event.

The objective of the NIW is to contribute towards a vibrant, productive & sustainable innovation ecosystem through policy influence, showcasing innovation, research dissemination, networking, capacity building, connecting start-ups & innovators to industry focusing on the government Big-four agenda that is Manufacturing, Food security, Affordable Housing, Health & other cross cutting innovations.

The University is now receiving applications from Self Sponsored students who wish to study BSc Chemistry, BSc Industrial Chemistry, BSc Analytical Chemistry, MSc Chemistry, MSc Analytical Chemistry, MSc Environmental Chemistry, MSc Industrial Chemistry & PhD Chemistry for September 2022 intake.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY ASSOCIATION OFFICIAL HANDING OVER CEREMONY, FRIDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2021

University of Nairobi Industrial Chemistry Association(UNICSA) is a student body that was established in 2007  mandated to harness full potential of members through involvement and engagement in activities that enhance  academic excellence and quality of life by organizing frequent fora, exchange programs and community outreach programmes aimed at equipping members with diverse knowledge in all aspects of life guided by the motto ”creativity is the crest of science”. Currently, it has a membership of 100 students excluding alumni and the constitution allows co-opting interested parties.

9TH INTERNATIONAL LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK OF ACTION 29TH OCTOBER 2021 ORGANIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action (ILPPWA) takes place annually in the last week of October since 2013. This year, the University of Nairobi through the Department of Chemistry had a privilege and honor to host the event which was done both physically and virtually on the 29th October 2021. Kenya joined the global community in marking the 9th ILPPWA between 24th and 30th October, 2021. The activities served as a platform to enhance efforts to eliminate lead in paint.
