The International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week of Action 23rd to 28th October 2023

Lead exposure was identified as one of the major emerging policy issues during the second International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) in 2009. The ICCM launched the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead in Paint (GAELP) as a voluntary initiative under the leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNEP in order to protect human health and the environment. The International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (IPPWA) was launched in 2011 and it takes place in the last week of October since 2013.

MENTORSHIP ON CAREER MAPPING AND PREPAREDNESS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY ON OCTOBER 13, 2023

The Department of Chemistry held a mentorship seminar on October 13, 2023, for third- and fourth-year students on Career Mapping and Preparedness. The event was facilitated by Mr. Edison Mochiemo, of KCB, and Mr. Livingstone Makori, of Corporate Career Academy. This was one in a series of events organized by the department meant to equip the students with soft skills required in the job market.

TRAINING OF STUDENTS ON PUBLIC SPEAKING BY AFRICAN CENTER OF PUBLIC SPEAKING(ACPS)

The Department of Chemistry through KEN-01 project organized training on public speaking from Wednesday October 4 2023 to Friday October 6 2023 for selected students who recently graduated from the Department. This training need was identified during the breakfast meeting held in May 17 2023 for female students organized by the Inorganic Research Group(KEN01) project.This training was sponsored by Denis Foundation and KEN-01 project.

 

3rd Regional NMR Training workshop: a Hands on approach 31st July-4th Aug 2023

The Department of Chemistry, University of Nairobi, through Kenya National Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center (KNMRC) organized & hosted  the Third (3rd)  Regional Hands-on NMR Training Workshop which was officially opened by the CEO, NRF, Professor Dickson Andala on 31st  July 2023. KNMRC was established as a national NMR center through a grant from the National Research Fund (NRF), Kenya to provide Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analytical services that include capacity building to scientists, not only in the country but also in the region.

 

PARTNERSHIP MEETING BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI, DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY & HACO INDUSTRY LTD

The Department of Chemistry organized a partnership meeting with HACO Industry which was  held on 13th June 2023 at the Faculty of Science Boardroom to discuss the work plan after the two institutions signed a Cooperation Agreement last year. The partnership established with HACO Industry ltd is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the two institutions to fulfill their respective mission & objectives through academic & industrial engagements & linkages..

 

PARTNERSHIP MEETING BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI & HACO INDUSTRY LTD

The Department of Chemistry has organized a partnership meeting with HACO Industry ltd to be held on 13th June 2023 at The University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus. This is their second meeting after the two institutions signed a cooperation agreement in November 2022  to enhance the capacity of both organizations  to fulfill their missions and objectives through academic and Industrial engagement.
