1. Sub-Regional Lead poisoning prevention week of action campaigns to Ban Import, Export and Use of Lead paint  across the East Africa Region held online  on 29th October 2020.

bannerEven though there is wide recognition of the harmful effects of lead and many countries have taken action, exposure to lead, particularly in childhood, remains of key concern to health care providers and public health officials worldwide.

An important source of lead exposure, particularly in children, is paint containing high levels of lead. These paints are still widely available and used in many countries for decorative purposes in homes, schools and on playground equipment, although good alternative paints without added lead are available.

This was the 8th National campaign on Lead poisoning prevention week of action and its aim is to draw attention to the health impacts of lead exposure, highlight efforts by countries and partners to prevent childhood lead exposure, and accelerate efforts to phase out the use of lead in paint.

The sub-regional Event sponsors are University of Nairobi, Basco Paints, Dura Coat and the  partners in this campaign includes; KEBS, The Architectural  Association of Kenya, UNEP, KIRDI, NEMA, Ministry of Environment & Forestry, Ministry Health, World Health Organization and many other Partners.

 2. Peer Mentors Association of Kenya visit to Omobera Secondary School in Kisii County.

The Peer Mentors Association of Kenya is an association that was started in the year 2018 by  Humphrey Andanyi (CEO PMAK) who is a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Chemistry, University of Nairobi and is being supported by the mentorship committees in the Department . This is due to a close analysis on major causes of failure among the youth from school to life. Some of the key reasons are: low parenting care, lack of confidence amongst the youth, inadequate government support, lack of proper networks, inadequate information in some particulars among others.

The aim of this organisation is to mentor young people in a more structured and proper way. We acknowledge all the organisations who are endlessly doing mentorship in various schools and forums. Mentorship is key because our young ones are losing track if not given directions. Success is finding a need and meet the need, PMAK is having a unique structure that is able to mentor young people in a daily bases, following up on their growth, meet some of their challenges, review their abilities and propagate the success in their future.

PMAK visited Omobera Secondary School  in July 2019 to mentor students in the following areas;

  • Mentorship –Career mentoring, Parenting programs,
  • Guiding & Counselling
  • Training in career, innovation, technology etc.
  • Life after High school
