The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Nairobi, hosted the First Crystallization contest in Kenya, under the African Education Program on 25th January 2025 where 15 high schools within Nairobi were invited to participate in the contest. The contest was organized by the consortium of Department of Chemistry in collaboration with The Donastia International Physics Center, University of Granada and the Spanish Embassy in Kenya under the African Education Program for Crystallization Contest for Schools. This is in preparedness of the Competency-Based-Centered Curriculum(CBC) learning as well as promoting advancement of science subjects, aiming at enhancing skills of future leaders in Science and Technology globally.
In preparation of the First African Education Program for Crystallization Contest in Schools, a three-day teacher training workshop on “Crystallography at the School” was held on, 29th November to 1st December 2023, in the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Nairobi. The Department had the privilege of training 23 educators from 13 public and private Schools across Nairobi, Kiambu. and Mombasa.
The students who participated had the opportunity to learn how to plan, present, and collaborate in scientific and technological information.
